A Small Retrospect
We got to know the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation (SPK for short) in 2011 when, together with our then project partner duplicon, we developed a central TYPO3-based intranet for the Foundation's 2000 employees. As part of a multi-stage coaching and consulting process, we worked with project managers and future editors to develop content, structures and workflows for the intranet, which we then implemented in TYPO3.
In 2013, we were given the task of responsively relaunching the company's website, taking into account the new corporate design and strict accessibility requirements. Generousness, comprehensive news functions, a catchy information architecture and a versatile media library have since shaped the character of the portal. This version passed the BITV test with a proud 97.5 points.
A support contract ensured the continuous support and further development of both sites. In the context of an annual strategy presentation the use was evaluated and suggestions for the advancement of the web offer of the SPK were made.
2016 - A Step Forward
The focus of the 2016 Strategy Talks was on the desire to make the lively and pulsating events within the Foundation and its museums, archives and institutions visible right on the homepage.
This gave rise to the idea of developing an editorial tool in TYPO3 that would allow the Foundation to do so:
To display its own news and dates according to predefined editorial criteria and priorities.
To integrate the creation and news of the associated museums, archives and institutions and to make them visible on the SPK homepage.
New: The Newswall
The central element of the revised homepage is now an editorially controllable "Newswall". This TYPO3 extension developed by cosmoblonde makes it possible to dynamically and consistently incorporate in-house news and dates and those of the affiliated institutions into a magazine-like interface via RSS.
All the news and events offered by the Foundation as a whole create a constantly updated stream of interesting cultural information and offers.
The Newswall can, however, not only be up-to-date - even slower changing and permanent contents of the website can be highlighted on the Newswall - according to defined editorial rules - and "pinned" to certain positions, so that an appealing mix of basic and current information is created.
New: Thematic Dossiers
Another focus of the revision was on the newly created thematic dossiers. The result is an editorial format that provides a deep insight into the Foundation's current topics, which is extremely versatile in terms of design and structure, and invites users to deepen their knowledge.
Better: The Search
In order to make the depth of content more accessible to the user, we have replaced the previous TYPO3 search with a solr-based full-text search.
Of course, the revised site also fully meets the demand for far-reaching accessibility.
Support & Further Development
cosmoblonde has supported the site since its first launch with consulting, technical and editorial support as well as monitoring (Nagios), function and security updates and communication interface to TYPO3 optimized hosting at the provider Mittwald.
